Mathematics is outstandingly good to study in Göttingen. There is a versatile studying offer with different possibilities to specialize in pure or applied mathematics. Also, over the time of the bachelor studies, you can choose between the profiles "research oriented", "practice oriented" and "physics oriented", according to your affinities.
The first semester of the bachelor studies is equal to every student: It starts with the basic modules "Analysis I" and "AGLA I", whereat the abbreviation AGLA stands for "Analytical geometry and linear algebra".
In general, the beginning of a study in mathematics is hard, because you first have to get into mathematical language and its way of thinking. Helpful and advisable is the so-called propaedeutics, which in each case is offered in september being a preparatory course between graduation from school and the beginning of the studies at the university.
It is essential for the study of mathematics to have fun and joy gaining new mathematical knowledge and getting more and more insights into science. To a big part, you learn by attending a lecture and reworking them. Also - quite important - by solving the weekly homework; in the tutorials the solutions will be presented and discussed. In the process of the studies the participation in seminars gets more and more important. Here, the students themselves present a mathematical area they got to know by reading textbooks or original papers. Out of the seminars often result topics for the thesis of the study program. The mathematical institutes at the university of Göttingen have very good equipped specialized libraries, in which the biggest part of the required literature is available. Also, there is a collection of cheap lecture notes as well as the freely accessible online lecture notes.

2-subject-bachelor studies and master of education: In the six semester taking 2-subject-bachelor study program with the degree "Bachelor of Arts" (B.A) two subjects with the same amount are studied. Also, there is a professionalization area, which can be chosen related to teaching post and which also is an entry requirement for the four semester taking study program "Master of Education".
